In the Studio is a new series from Hauser & Wirth Publishers designed to appeal to art lovers and newcomers alike. Written by leading scholars and critics, each book offers a generously illustrated, compact overview of a major artist’s art and ideas. Whether it is to gain insider knowledge or to experience their work for the first time, these handsome, pocket-sized books take you into their world and studio practice.
The first three editions focus on celebrated British sculptor Phyllida Barlow (1944 – 2023), the pioneering abstract painter Jack Whitten (1939 – 2018), and the conceptual artist Lee Lozano (1930 – 1999).
Forthcoming releases in the series will offer insights into the studio practice of contemporary Belgian artist Berlinde De Bruyckere, followed by American master Paul McCarthy and a study of art-historical icon Louise Bourgeois.
‘With these books, we’re thrilled to put the world of an artist and their ideas into your pocket. Concise, insightful and full of the most wonderful images, they go behind the scenes to unlock the inspiration of an artist’s studio for all to discover and enjoy.’—Manuela Wirth
